The mountain has several trails that adapt to the terrain conditions. One of them is steeper, with rocky sections and accumulated snow, requiring sturdy mountain footwear and good stability. In winter, we usually opt for the traditional trail, which has gentler slopes and winds through a dense lenga forest covered in snow, where you might be lucky enough to spot woodpeckers, a hallmark of the area.
The woodpecker is a very characteristic bird in Patagonia, known for its ability to drill into tree trunks. Do you know why its “work” is so valuable for the forest ecosystem?
The scenery changes as we ascend, and upon leaving the forest, we enter the high Andean terrain, where views open up toward the surrounding peaks and Lake Nahuel Huapi. This is the most spectacular part of the trek, where the effort is rewarded with landscapes that become even more breathtaking when covered in snow.
This little-known mountain is located in Colonia Suiza, and along its trails, we often encounter birds and beautiful flowers decorating the path. The view from the summit is monumental.
Walking over the white blanket, with the sound of snow crunching under your feet, is a unique experience. As we move forward, the trail fades into granite rock formations, and if we’re lucky, we might see condors soaring above us.
The winter experience on Cerro Goye is much more than a trek: it’s an encounter with the tranquility of nature in its purest state. During the winter season, the mountain is covered with a layer of snow that transforms the landscape, making every step on the trail a new discovery.
The contrast of snow against the rock formations and coihues blanketed in white is something few can experience outside this time of year.
The return follows the same trail, but if you want a longer route, there’s the possibility of connecting to Cerro Bella Vista and continuing to the area known as “Tambo Báez.” This extended route allows you to explore even more of the region’s beauty.
