The adventure begins at the Canopy in Colonia Suiza, where the first steps immerse us in the mountain. The trail guides us through lenga trees and clearings, allowing sunlight to illuminate roots, stones, and moss. The songs of birds accompany each step, while the fresh air and the stillness of the forest create an immediate sense of connection with nature. Every detail, every leaf, and every shadow seems to tell the story of this little-traveled mountain.
Refugio Extremo Encantado appears as the first milestone along the route. Surrounded by pristine forest, it invites a pause to contemplate the valley unfolding at our feet. Lake Nahuel Huapi reflects the daylight, while Victoria Island and the Quetrihué Peninsula emerge on the horizon. It is a place where the mountain reminds us that each step is as valuable as the destination itself.
A refuge that allows time to recover energy and breathe in the mountain before continuing toward the ridge. Its views and tranquility make it unforgettable, while lenga trees surround every corner and the wind accompanies the pause.
From here, the trail leads us among tall lenga trees, where light and shadow play together, forming patterns that change with every step. Each clearing opens a view toward the valley and the lake, offering new perspectives that transform as we gain elevation. The forest becomes a spectacle of textures, aromas, and sounds: damp soil, trunks covered in moss, and the breeze moving the leaves accompany every moment. Walking through this section is an immersion into the purest essence of the mountain.
As we continue, the terrain becomes rockier and the forest gradually opens, giving way to lenga shrubs. We enter the high Andean relief, where vegetation becomes sparse and rocks take center stage, revealing the mountain in its most authentic form. Each step offers expanding views toward endless peaks and lakes reflecting the sky—details that can only be discovered by walking along hidden, little-traveled trails.
It is very likely to see condors gliding on the thermals, adding majesty to the journey. Their wings outstretched, they trace the wind as they cross the sky, completing the feeling of freedom that the mountain offers.
Upon reaching Filo de las Cabras (1,800 m), the reward is indescribable. From here we contemplate the summit of Cerro López, Pico Turista and, below, its refuge; Lake Nahuel Huapi, Victoria Island, and the Quetrihué Peninsula. The peaks of Bella Vista and the Goye also appear, and above them the spires of Cerro Catedral rise into view. Filo de las Cabras becomes a natural balcony, an ideal place to stop for lunch and let the gaze wander in every direction.
Every moment reminds us that walking in the mountains is an encounter with nature in its most authentic state. Pure air surrounds us and the silence is broken only by the wind and the songs of birds, while the immensity of the landscape envelops everything. Here, sitting on the stones of the ridge, every bite and every sip of water becomes a ritual of contemplation and rest.
This experience allows the discovery of the mountain in its most authentic and wild state. The stop at Roca Negra and the views during the descent complete the experience, adding comfort and connection with nature.
The descent begins along a winding trail among rocks and shrubs, revealing new perspectives of the valley and the lake. The mountain shows another face: unique rock formations and corners where the wind seems to tell ancient stories. Clearings alternate with areas of dark rock that give a special character to the landscape, while we feel the softness and hardness of the terrain beneath our feet.
Halfway down, we reach the viewpoint of Roca Negra, a mandatory stop. Here we can rest and refill water from the mountain before continuing the descent. It is a perfect place to regain energy and contemplate the landscape that continues to unfold at our feet—a moment to enjoy the mountain and prepare to complete the circular route.
This trekking combines endless panoramas, hidden trails, and refuges that invite rest. The presence of condors and the demanding nature of the route, with ascents and descents that challenge the body, make this an unforgettable and complete experience.
The trail continues descending, alternating forest, clearings, and small rocks that require attention. Each curve offers new views of Lake Nahuel Huapi, Victoria Island, and the surrounding peaks. The feeling of full immersion in the mountain remains until returning to the Canopy, completing the circular experience. The landscape changes with every step, reminding us of the richness of the Andean Patagonia.
Finally, the circular route brings us back to the starting point. Forest, elevation, ridge lines, endless panoramas, and the magic of the mountain refuges remain etched in memory. Every moment lived, every view, and every sound complete a challenging, poetic, and unique experience.
