The starting point is Tambo Báez, at the beginning of the trail to Jakob Refuge. From there, we’ll move through colihue canes that form a green tunnel —a peaceful passage where the sound of the wind blends with the murmur of the forest. The slope starts gently, perfect to find the rhythm, and little by little, the coihue trees rise around us, tall and protective, filtering the light that falls in beams over the path.

As we gain altitude, the forest begins to change: the air turns cooler, and the first lenga trees appear, whose colors and shapes announce the approach of the high mountain. The climb becomes steady, and through bends and steeper sections, we’ll reach a natural viewpoint over the lakes —a perfect place to pause, drink some water, and look up for condors that often take advantage of air currents to glide above the mountains.

The forest opens, and the landscape transforms completely. The lengas become stunted, the ground turns rocky, and the path disappears, giving way to the rugged terrain of the high mountains. From here, the ascent to Bella Vista Mountain becomes a succession of zigzags between eroded rocks and tiny flowers that grow in extreme conditions.

Upon reaching the summit, a 360° panoramic view unfolds before our eyes: the Moreno and Nahuel Huapi lakes, Cerro Catedral, Tronador, and the immense mountain range fading into the horizon.

It’s easy to understand why this mountain carries its name. From Bella Vista’s summit, the ridge leading toward Goye seems drawn by the wind. We’ll walk over rock, following a natural line that connects both peaks and offers one of the widest and most solitary views in the area.

To our right, the lakes mirror the sky; to our left, valleys and forests descend toward Colonia Suiza. On clear days, the reflections of the water and the light over the stone create an unforgettable spectacle.

We’ll enter the forest again until reaching a col (a mountain pass between two peaks or valleys), a perfect place to rest before facing the second summit. On the final ascent to Goye Mountain, the trail leaves the forest once more, turning into a high-mountain path with a moderate slope and broad views of Nahuel Huapi and Tronador.

As we reach Goye, time seems to stand still: the air is pure, the silence deep, and the feeling of being in harmony with the surroundings becomes complete. It’s the perfect place to rest and let your gaze wander among the mountains.

The descent toward Colonia Suiza offers two trails: the forest path, softer and shaded, or the scenic trail, rockier and more direct.

If we choose the forest path, we’ll follow gentler slopes through an old lenga forest inhabited by woodpeckers that we may be lucky enough to see. The woodpecker is a very characteristic bird of Patagonia, known for its ability to drill into tree trunks. Do you know why its “work” is so valuable to the forest ecosystem?

The scent of the earth and the sound of the wind through the branches mark the natural closure of this circular journey. The route ends in the valley, leaving the feeling of having crossed two worlds in a single day: the world of the forest and that of the rock —of effort and contemplation.
